2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Truck, Diesel, SS, Review, and Price. The pickup truck market in the US is the segment that makes a lot of profit to companies that produce them. Maybe they earn the most money from one heavy-duty truck, but most units are sold in the full-size segment. That is why we can hear rumors about the expansion of this category.
The off-road ZR2 model, General Motors added a diesel unit to its main product– Chevrolet Silverado. We expected to see it as the 2019 year model, but it seems like the new pickup will appear as a vehicle for the next season. Still, expectations from 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel are the same– to be competitive with Dodge Ram 1500 Diesel and Ford F-150 Diesel.
None of these trucks is in production yet, although all of them had spectacular debuts at 2018 NAIAS. After the VW and Audi scandal (fake emission reports), EPA is stricter about diesel engines. Even the leading US companies must wait a bit longer. We know specs and most details about the Duramax unit that will lay under the bonnet, it is not official yet until the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel enters the production and hits the dealerships.
2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Engine Specs
Under the hood, things will most likely remain. A 5.3-liter V8 remains standard power option. It produces 355 horses and 380 lb-ft of torque. Larger and optional 6.2-liter generates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. If you are a fan of diesel, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder is available. This powertrain will arrive next year and we are still waiting for its specs.
Literally, a whole segment entered the “hybrid race” and the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 will be no different. GM plans to combine a gasoline V6 with the pair of electric motors/generators. A 4.3-liter V6 will solely deliver 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. Surely, motors will add more horses and more torque. Reliable sources are suggesting around 28 mpg combined for the Silverado 1500 Hybrid model.
2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Duramax Diesel Specs, MPG, Towing Capacity
Everything about 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel is related to numbers. The major problem for these kinds of engines is CO2 emission. Rare companies are going after diesel models. When major rivals do it, GM must keep the pace. Well, Ford was the loudest about the F-150 Diesel. Ram and Chevy added the same breed of the drivetrain to their full-size trucks.
We are still waiting to get the confirmation of 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel specs. Obviously, Duramax is the company that will deliver this unit to General Motors main model. It is a 3.0-liter unit that is capable to create 280 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. This Duramax turbodiesel drivetrain will be able to tow 12,000 pounds. At the same time, a V6 unit improves the mileage of the petrol Silverado. It will be very similar to the new turbocharged four-pot powertrain (around 30 mpg combined).
2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel Launch
This is probably the major question about the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel Presented in 2018 and announced for 2019, fans are still waiting for the truck. Well, after final tests, the pickup will get a green light from EPA and it will hit salons late this year. Seeing it earlier is not likely. In the last quarter of 2019, we will also see which trim levels are going to be offered for the 2021 Silverado 1500 Diesel
2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel vs Dodge Ram 1500 Diesel vs Ford F-150 Diesel
The battle continues in the new segment. Ford had the most aggressive campaign about its F-150 diesel truck. Well, the entire industry knew the GM is not letting it go and that Silverado 1500 will come with the same kind of drivetrain pretty soon. Ram 1500 surprised everyone and stole the show, both in Detroit and in 2018 Superbowl halftime ads. All three companies rushed and now fans are waiting for the EPA to finish tests and give green light to all engines.
The 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel will use a Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine. This unit is capable to produce 280 hp. Ford has its own drivetrain. It is a Power Stroke unit with the same 3.0-liter displacement. It lacks power compared to its archrival, delivering 250 hp. Duramax mill is creating 450 lb-ft of torque, while the Power Stroke engine 440 pound-feet. The least powerful truck will be Dodge Ram 1500 Diesel. Its EcoDiesel unit is good for 420 lb-ft and 240 horsepower. Do we have to mention it is a 3.0 turbo engine?
More power and torque mean higher towing capacity. We already mentioned rumors about 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel and 12,000 pounds. Ford and Power Stroke is offering 11,400 lbs, while the lack of power and twist costs Ram 1500 Diesel the most. This truck is going to be rated around 9,500 pounds for towing.
